ICE agent experienced internal bleeding after being hit by Renee Good's car, according to DHS.

Incident Involving ICE Officer and Renee Nicole Good

Last week in Minneapolis, the federal agent who fatally shot Renee Nicole Good sustained internal bleeding in his torso after her vehicle struck him. This information was confirmed by Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

The severity of the injuries suffered by Jonathan Ross, an officer with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), is still unclear. After the incident on January 7, he was treated at a hospital and released the same day, according to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.

This health update follows comments from Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, who had previously downplayed the extent of the deputy’s injuries. He stated that the officer merely suffered a back injury, claiming it was because he “closed the refrigerator door with his back.” Frey insisted that the officer was not seriously harmed and that no vehicular assault occurred.

Cellphone footage of the incident has led to varied responses from officials and lawmakers. Federal representatives argue that Good acted defensively when she drove toward ICE agents, labeling her actions as “an act of domestic terrorism.” Additionally, authorities mention that earlier that day, Good had harassed a federal employee.

In a somewhat contradictory statement, Vice President J.D. Vance described the event as one where the officer was in danger and fired in self-defense. Conversely, Mayor Frey dismissed the self-defense claim as “garbage.” Meanwhile, some Democrats and local residents have considered the shooting a homicide and have called for prosecution of Officer Ross.

As the investigation continues, reactions remain mixed, illustrating the complex nature of incidents involving law enforcement and the public.
