Increased ICE Enforcement in Georgia After Tragic Murder

More than a year after the murder of 22-year-old Laiken Riley by an undocumented foreign national in Athens, Georgia, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Office (ICE) has ramped up its immigration enforcement efforts in the state.

From January 20 to July 31, ICE agents apprehended around 4,500 undocumented individuals in Georgia. This represents a staggering 367% increase compared to the same time frame in 2021, during the administration of former President Joe Biden.

Tricia McLaughlin from the Department of Homeland Security noted that “Biden’s open border policy permitted Laiken Riley’s murderers to remain in the country and ultimately led to the brutal killing of this young nursing student from Georgia.”

President Trump has committed to prioritizing American lives by removing violent criminals from the country. This is exactly what we aim to do. Under his leadership and that of Chief Noem, ICE can eliminate some of the worst offenders, including murderers, child predators, gang members, drug traffickers, and terrorists. In Georgia alone, the number of arrests for illegal aliens has surged by 367%.

Among those arrested in the last six months are:

  • Jacob Aguillon Martinez from Mexico, arrested for murder and hit and run.
  • Armando Garcia Ramos from Guatemala, convicted of attempted felony murder and multiple firearm offenses.
  • Juan Carlos Mendoza Gonzalez from Mexico, found guilty of statutory rape and severe child abuse.
  • Robert Edward Matos Madueno from Venezuela, charged with child abuse and false imprisonment involving a minor.
  • Louis Alfredo Betancourt Euseda from Honduras, guilty of two counts of sexual battery against a child.
  • Matilde Romero Sanchez from Mexico, arrested for incest and child abuse.
  • Fernando Hernandez Martinez from Mexico, convicted of two counts of child abuse.
  • Eduardo Garcia Gonzalez from Mexico, arrested for multiple counts of child abuse and drug possession.
  • Osvaldo Rodriguez Padilla from Mexico, convicted of importing a significant quantity of cocaine.
  • Flavio de Labra Leborer from Mexico, convicted of drug trafficking and multiple firearm offenses.

The population of undocumented immigrants in Georgia has increased significantly in recent years. Last year, it was estimated that more than 750,000 undocumented individuals resided in the state.
