ICE Director Lyons Steps Down Shortly After Revealing Major Chinese Illegal Alien Gift Card Scam

Resignation of ICE Director Todd Lyons

On Thursday, Todd Lyons, the Director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, resigned from his role within the Department of Homeland Security. This announcement came after his recent testimony to the House Appropriations Committee’s Homeland Security Subcommittee, where he discussed the ongoing investigation into a significant gift card fraud scheme linked to Chinese illegal aliens.

Lyons’s resignation letter, reported by a prominent news outlet, mentioned family concerns as the primary reason for his departure. He expressed that it had been a “huge honor” to lead the agency over the past two decades.

In his letter, he reflected on his family: “Both of my sons are at important points in their lives, and my wife and I want to spend as much time as possible with them. This was not an easy decision to make, but I believe it was the right one for me and my family at this time.”

Mark Wayne Mullin, the Secretary of Homeland Security, commented on Lyons’s resignation, praising him as a “great leader at ICE” who played a vital role in the administration’s efforts to remove violent offenders from American communities.

Tom Homan, a key figure during the Trump administration, described Lyons as a dedicated public servant, noting the record levels of deportations achieved under his leadership in the first year.

Additionally, Stephen Miller, Deputy Chief of Staff at the White House, called Lyons an “incredible patriot” whose leadership was central to the administration’s initiatives to secure the nation’s borders.

Lyons’s resignation followed shortly after his testimony, where he highlighted the successful resolution of the largest gift card fraud case, identifying the involvement of a transnational gang aligned with the Chinese Communist Party. He stated that these individuals had unlawfully entered the U.S. during the Biden administration and that funds were allegedly funneled to Chinese military units.

Throughout his time as director, Lyons was known for spearheading efforts to apprehend undocumented immigrants involved in violent crimes and for tackling organized crime, particularly from drug cartels in Mexico and Venezuela.

Lyons will remain in his position as ICE director until the end of May.
