Jon Stewart recently criticized U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), calling it a “funded paramilitary group” that is harming “zip-tie American children” on a recent episode of Comedy Central’s Daily Show.
“From deporting the worst of the worst to throwing grandmothers onto linoleum and zip-tieing America’s children,” Stewart said during Monday’s episode of Daily Show.
“And everyone is supposed to just accept this new, masked, well-funded paramilitary organization,” Stewart remarked, suggesting that U.S. law enforcement has been sanitized in public perception. He further pointed out that Democrats appear to have turned into mere symbols of resistance.
Stewart then aired a clip from CNN featuring Krista Noem from the Department of Homeland Security, who claimed she had recently been denied access to buildings in Illinois.
“Victory is ours!” he exclaimed, mocking the Democrats who seemed to think that blocking Noem from the building was a significant achievement.
“I’ve criticized the Democrats quite a bit for their ineffective leadership: there’s no solid, actionable plan, poor messaging, and, let’s not forget, terrible leadership,” Stewart explained.
“But it’s like they can’t advocate for 75 million Americans right now or even defend people’s rights to manage their medical debt a bit better,” he added.
Stewart ended his segment by arguing that Republicans don’t have a “100%” mandate to push their agenda.
“They merely got a fortunate constitutional and administrative break,” he speculated.
Specifically, he noted that President Donald Trump, who actively campaigned against illegal immigration, won the 2024 election convincingly, taking both the electoral college and all important swing states, thus giving his administration a clear message from voters.
