Mexican National Accused of Sexual Assault Arrested in South Carolina
Federal immigration officials in South Carolina have taken a Mexican national into custody after a disturbing incident involving a minor. This comes after a young girl was discovered giving birth in a hospital parking lot.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has initiated legal action against Luis Armando Argueta Montejo, who is accused of engaging in sexual relations with a minor female estimated to be between 11 and 14 years old.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reported that Montejo was apprehended shortly after the minor’s emergency situation at Oconee Memorial Hospital. Evidence collected by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office suggests that Montejo had sexual encounters with the victim.
The 43-year-old man faces serious charges, including incest and three counts of criminal sexual conduct with a child, as stated by DHS.
Lauren Biss, acting assistant secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, expressed outrage in a statement: “This sick individual should never have come to our country to prey on children in the first place. He is currently charged with incest and multiple child sex crimes.”
Montejo has informed ICE that he originally entered the United States in 2006 and claimed to have no prior criminal history.
ICE filed a motion for his detention on April 17, seeking to transfer him to federal custody once the local legal proceedings conclude.
Biss emphasized the need for collaboration between federal and local agencies, praising South Carolina’s cooperation with ICE. “Thankfully, South Carolina is cooperating with ICE law enforcement,” Biss stated. “That’s why we need cooperation from our state and local partners. Together, we can keep criminals off our streets and make America safe again.”
