ICE Presses Gavin Newsom to Reconsider Sanctuary Policy After Alleged Murder of Infant, Mother, and Grandmother by Illegal Immigrant

Triple Murder Allegations Against Illegal Immigrant Prompt Calls for Policy Change

Breitbart News has reported that an illegal immigrant is facing charges for a violent triple murder involving an infant, his mother, and grandmother. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials are urging California Governor Gavin Newsom to reconsider the state’s sanctuary policy.

Joaquin Escort Vasquez, a 28-year-old man from Mexico, was apprehended by police in Modesto. He has been charged with murder and child abuse following the alleged stabbings of a toddler, his mother, Fabiola Gonzalez Nunez, age 23, and his grandmother, Maria Silvia Nunez Villalobos, who was 54.

According to law enforcement, Vasquez is believed to have stabbed all three victims at a residence in Modesto. Upon arrival, police found the two women deceased, and the infant was subsequently taken to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

ICE has reported that Vasquez previously faced four arrests for drunk driving in California. After a DUI arrest in June 2025, agents attempted to place a hold on him while he was detained at the San Joaquin County Jail.

However, California’s sanctuary state policy led to his release back into the community, despite the hold placed by ICE.

Following his release, ICE agents detained Vasquez at the Stanislaus County Jail, requesting to be informed whenever an illegal immigrant is set to be released.

“If politicians in California had simply worked with ICE, these horrific crimes might have been avoided,” commented Lauren Biss from the Department of Homeland Security. “This illegal immigrant from Mexico now stands charged with murder and child abuse after fatally stabbing an infant, along with the child’s mother and grandmother. Governor Newsom and others must stop endangering lives by allowing criminals back into our communities.”

Vasquez initially entered California illegally in 2018 but was deported during the early days of the Trump administration. He then re-entered the country again as an unknown fugitive.
