Illegal Alien Charged in Texas Shooting
A previously deported illegal immigrant with a serious criminal history has been charged in connection with a shooting in New Caney, Texas, during the Memorial Day weekend. Current reports indicate that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is pursuing custody of this individual.
Juan Ayala Montero, a 60-year-old undocumented immigrant from Mexico, has been charged this week with unlawful possession of a firearm by an illegal alien. According to prosecutors, on May 23, he made threats against a group of individuals after a dispute.
After leaving the argument, Ayala Montero allegedly went home, retrieved a rifle, and returned to fire at the group. One victim sustained gunshot wounds to both the torso and head.
Upon police arrival, officers heard gunfire and began to evacuate individuals from the area. Ayala Montero was later apprehended by law enforcement.
In his bedroom, police discovered an Olympic Arms .223 AR-style rifle along with a scope. Additionally, about 30 spent shell casings from .223 caliber rounds were found at the shooting scene.
ICE has requested that Montgomery County authorities hold Ayala Montero until federal agents can take him into their custody.
Ayala Montero has a lengthy criminal record that includes charges for murder, assault, DUI, aggravated assault with a firearm, and criminal trespassing, according to ICE officials.
“This criminal illegal alien has been deported before and now faces federal charges for firearm possession as an illegal alien,” stated Lauren Biss from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). “As Texas collaborates with ICE, we will keep working to ensure this individual doesn’t pose a threat to our communities again.”
Ayala Montero initially entered the U.S. from Mexico through Arizona in 1983 and was deported in 2006, only to illegally re-enter the country a year later, which is classified as a felony.
