Dr. Phil Responds to Controversy Surrounding ICE Operations
TV personality Dr. Phil McGraw recently addressed claims made by Democrats regarding Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations that purportedly provoked violent riots in Los Angeles. He pointed out that significant businesses were not just random targets of these operations.
There was confusion stemming from a previous raid in Chicago where agents were mistakenly reported as being “embedded.” This led to incorrect claims that the same was happening last Friday in LA.
“I’ll clarify the situation,” McGraw stated in an op-ed. He emphasized that, contrary to reports, there were no ICE agents aiming to arrest migrants during the recent operation.
McGraw participated in briefings with agencies like the FBI and ATF, where he discussed the day’s events. On Monday, CNN’s Brian Stelter reported that McGraw had been “embedded” with ICE during the incident. However, a spokesperson later confirmed that he was not involved in any ICE activities and was there to keep things from escalating.
MSNBC’s Ja’han Jones also contributed to the narrative, suggesting McGraw had a more provocative role, describing him as a “MAGA propagandist.” A left-wing blogger argued that figures like McGraw stir up right-wing fears around immigration.
In a piece titled “This is truly the darkest, stupid timeline,” a writer from the Washington Post claimed that McGraw’s alleged involvement in the ICE raids was emblematic of troubling times.
Meanwhile, Los Angeles Times columnist Mary McNamara questioned McGraw’s engagement in the immigrant detentions, insinuating it resembled another reality TV spectacle orchestrated by a celebrity.
Despite varied reactions, it seems the left-leaning media is trying to generate sympathy for the detentions. However, McGraw clarified that the operations were conducted under legitimate federal warrants, not as a result of spontaneous action.
He mentioned the clothing warehouse in question was under investigation for serious crimes, including money laundering tied to criminal organizations.
Back in 2020, the business and its owner faced charges for undervaluing imports and evading tariffs. The company has since pleaded guilty to multiple counts, resulting in a prison sentence for its owner.
Following a raid, federal agents documented around 40 individuals who appeared to be in the country illegally, complying with US law by detaining them.
The Department of Homeland Security confirmed the arrests included individuals with serious criminal histories, raising concerns about safety during the operations.
McGraw also criticized the protests against ICE, attributing the unrest to a broader political agenda. He noted that during Barack Obama’s presidency, millions were deported without similar outcry, questioning the motives behind current demonstrations.
