The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said on Tuesday that soldiers had discovered train tracks inside a Hamas tunnel underground in northern Gaza.
The Israel Defense Forces said in a statement:
Since the war began, the IDF has been working to dismantle and neutralize Hamas' underground infrastructure in the Gaza Strip.
Units of the Gaza Strip Engineer Corps and the North Gaza Brigade, working with Yahalom Forces and acting on prior intelligence, discovered and destroyed an underground Hamas attack tunnel route in the Beit Lahia area, the length of which was over one kilometer.
The route of the destroyed tunnel has been identified and surveyed over the past few weeks. Forces have located weapons, electrical equipment and transport rails within the tunnel route.
Israel is gradually destroying a network of Hamas tunnels that is believed to stretch hundreds of miles beneath the tiny territory.
Some of the tunnels are large enough for vehicles to pass through, and at least one smuggling tunnel is located beneath Rafah, near the Gaza-Egypt border.
At least some of the remaining Israeli hostages are believed to be held inside the tunnels.
