On CNN’s “AC360” broadcast Friday, CNN national security analyst Peter Bergen said that if ISIS-K’s claim of responsibility for the Russian concert hall attack was accurate, “if it turns out, Biden It would be very embarrassing for the government.” ISIS-K appears to have reunited to the point where they can contact other countries. [and] The Biden administration is “responsible” for withdrawing troops from Afghanistan, yet it carries out a large-scale attack.
Bergen said if ISIS-K was the culprit, that would suggest their capabilities were “back.”
he added, “[I]At first, when I saw this, I was a little skeptical. Because ISIS fighters usually don’t care about being killed at a crime scene. You’re not — you’re not looking for escape, you want to martyr yourself. So, according to the Russians, in this case it appears that people actually fled. And this is not typical for an ISIS type attack. So, however, it turned out that it was not only the Americans who had information in their systems about the presence of ISIS in Moscow, but also the Russians. Otherwise, why did Russian state television report on ISIS’s plan to attack a synagogue in Moscow on March 7? So, I don’t know. That’s not at all typical of their MO, but certainly, ISIS has attacked concert venues in the past. Remember when 130 people were murdered in Paris in 2015, most of them concert-goers? And clearly, this piece could be exactly what this group says it is. I’m still looking for evidence, but hopefully I can identify who these people are relatively quickly. Are they Tajiks? Are they Chechens? If they are part of ISIS. Did they receive training in Afghanistan? That’s a very big question. Clearly, it would be extremely embarrassing for the Biden administration if ISIS-K were found to have reunited to the extent that it could contact other countries. [and] They carry out large-scale attacks at a time when they are responsible for the withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan. ”
