House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., said on MSNBC’s “Deadline” on Friday that if the Supreme Court were to overturn the ruling, Roe v. Wade, If that happens, “democracy could collapse.”
“It’s important for the American people to understand,” Jeffries said. Roe v. Wade It could collapse, anything could collapse. Social Security itself could collapse. Medicare could collapse. The Affordable Care Act could collapse. Democracy could collapse. Brown v. Board of Education As Justice Thomas made clear in his concurring opinion yesterday, everything we care about will be on the ballot in November, including ensuring that federal courts are actually in a position to enforce the law and make decisions in a fair and impartial manner, and not lead an ideological effort to impose right-wing views on the American people.”
He added, “Over the past few years, the Supreme Court has done a lot to undermine public confidence in the judicial branch. This is very unfortunate because we need a fair and impartial judicial branch in our system. A few MAGA people on the Supreme Court have taken things too far in an extreme direction. I think we need to continue to urge the American people that, at the end of the day, who we elect for president, who we elect for the Senate, will determine the future fate of the Supreme Court of the United States. Given that people do not seem to have confidence in the Supreme Court, I am hopeful that will be a factor in the November vote.”
