Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) said Sunday on CNN's “State of the Union” that Vice President Kamala Harris, if elected, would make a case for U.S. support for Israel in the war.
“We know it's going to be a very close election,” host Jake Tapper said. “Michigan has a large Arab-American and Muslim-American population who traditionally vote Democratic. But there is great concern among Democrats that many of these voters will move to the third party or not vote at all in protest of Biden and Harris' support for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. What would you say to voters who are considering sitting out this election, voting for a third party, or voting for Donald Trump because Netanyahu and Biden-Harris do not support Netanyahu? .”
“What I'm saying in my opinion is, you know, I happen to believe that Hamas is a horrible terrorist organization that attacked Israel on October 7th,” Sanders said. He had the right to fight back.” However, it had no right to wage war against the entire Palestinian people; 42,000 people were killed, 100,000 were injured, and almost all of Gaza was destroyed. That they have no right to do so. I will lead efforts to ensure that no more offensive military aid is provided to Israel. However, Mr. Harris cannot say anything about these people because he does not agree with them. On that issue, Trump is even worse, even on that issue, and he will move closer to Netanyahu. ”
He added: “So if we elect Ms. Harris, I think we'll have an opportunity to mobilize her on that issue. Let me be clear: We will not stand still until the children of Gaza die. No. I don't think she would be open to that. You really don't even have Republican support in the Senate for humanitarian aid to feed hungry children. I want to vote, but who has that idea? I hope not.”
