Ilhan Omar Expresses Pride in Her Daughter Participating in Exclusive Leftist Cuba Tour

Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Daughter Joins Cuba Support Convoy

On Monday, Rep. Ilhan Omar from Minnesota expressed her immense pride in her daughter, Isra Hirsi, who participated in the Nuestra América convoy. This international assembly consisted of notable leftist figures traveling to Cuba in support of its 67-year-old communist government.

Rep. Omar shared her emotions on social media, stating, “I’m so proud of Isla and everyone who visited Cuba. They provided significant aid to show the Cuban people they have support from around the world. Cuba has long history of aiding nations in need and has trained countless doctors globally, one of whom was my childhood physician.”

She went on to describe Hirsi as more than just her daughter. “She is an exceptional young leader who tirelessly advocates for a just world. Her leadership and commitment inspire many, including myself. I feel incredibly fortunate to have her as my daughter and to witness her unwavering fight for justice.”

Hirsi, who identifies as a self-described “angry black girl” with communist views, participated in what is characterized as an effort to deliver “humanitarian aid” to Cuba. Organizers have criticized former President Trump’s policies, claiming they have harmed the already struggling nation and exacerbated human rights issues under the Castro regime.

Interestingly, there’s no mention in their initiative of the Cuban government’s role in the current crisis, nor do they acknowledge that decades of communist governance have led to widespread poverty and hunger. This has resulted in deteriorating infrastructure, limited healthcare access, and ongoing population decline.

In her post, Hirsi stated, “Yes, I’m in Cuba! Individuals from across the globe are here to show solidarity with the Cuban people against the oppressive blockade intensified by the Trump administration. It’s an honor to be here. We seek to make history and I wish everyone a happy Eid Mubarak!”

Notably, Hirsi wasn’t alone in her endeavors; she was joined by other prominent figures including Hasan Piker, a streaming personality, and Jeremy Corbyn, the former leader of the UK’s Labor Party, among others. These individuals traveled to Cuba ostensibly to support the communist regime.

During a gathering, Manolo de los Santos praised the Cuban government, expressing what he sees as an authentic alternative to capitalism and imperialism. He claimed the U.S. represents an extraordinary threat to Cuba, accusing it of perpetrating actions akin to genocide.

While those supporting the Cuban regime receive applause, many Cuban dissidents and individuals in the diaspora vehemently oppose their views. Yoani Sánchez, a notable Cuban dissident, has criticized these visitors for treating Cuba like a “theme park” and urged them to partake in their ideological tourism elsewhere.

Interestingly, reports indicated that while power outages affected many homes across Cuba, some convoy members enjoyed luxury accommodations that remained unaffected. Piker even broadcast from his hotel room while the rest of the country faced blackouts.

In a surprising video circulating online, members of the Nuestra América convoy appeared to be seen pressuring Cuban children to dance in exchange for food—though the authenticity of this footage remains unverified.
