Ilhan Omar’s Controversial Comments During ICE Operation
Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota made headlines after using profanity when discussing the United States during an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) mission in Minneapolis.
At a Democratic event on Saturday, titled “Kidnappings and Disappearances: Trump’s Deadly Attack on Minnesota,” she voiced strong criticism against Republicans and President Trump regarding the actions of ICE.
She expressed her outrage, saying, “It’s appalling to our colleagues across the aisle that the president is facilitating retaliation in Minnesota. It’s disgraceful that Americans are being kept in solitary confinement by ICE,” Omar stated.
Omar elaborated further, remarking, “It’s deeply troubling for them that American cities have checkpoints demanding documents. It’s shocking that citizens are required to carry proof of citizenship, and they have to question its validity.” She then boldly declared, “Damn this country,” referencing the experiences of those who have fled to America in search of a better life.
During her speech, she also mentioned, “We should be ashamed that these events are happening in the United States, broadcasted worldwide, prompting questions like, ‘Is this truly America?’ I share this shame and feel compelled to reclaim the America we sought refuge in.”
A video of Omar’s remarks can be found, with her offensive comments surfacing around the 1 minute 20 second mark.
In response to her comments about the U.S., a White House Rapid Response Account stated, “There’s no way she should speak of our country like this. It’s disrespectful and disgusting. Shame on her!”
Senator Mike Lee from Utah also reacted, noting, “No member of Congress should ever refer to our country in such terms,” and questioned the implications if he had said something similar.
Elon Musk replied to Lee, contemplating on the potential punishments for treason, and Lee noted that there are indeed severe penalties for such betrayal.
While President Trump didn’t directly address Omar’s remarks on his Sunday posts, he referred to her as a “fake ‘congresswoman'” and claimed she’s a “constant complainer who despises America,” suggesting she should either be imprisoned or sent back to Somalia, a country he described as one of the worst.
