‘I’ll Lose Friends For This”: Ultra-Wealthy Former Dem Donor Cuts Massive Check To Trump After Conviction

Ultra-wealthy Sequoia Capitol partner and former Democratic donor Sean Maguire announced he was donating $300,000 to former President Donald Trump’s campaign on Thursday night after his guilty plea was announced.

Maguire published a Twitter post and article about his public decision to pledge a large donation to President Trump, explaining why he was “prepared to lose friends” over the choice. “Now, in 2024, I believe this is one of the most important elections of my lifetime, and I support Trump. “I know I will lose friends over this. Some will refuse to do business with me. The media will demonize me, as they have done so many before me, but I still believe this is the right thing to do,” Maguire wrote in the article. “I refuse to live in a society where people are afraid to speak.”

Maguire said he was “really scared of Trump” during the 2016 election, but ultimately decided to donate to former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

By Aug. 16, 2021, Maguire had decided he would never support President Joe Biden or “any senior official in his administration” due to Biden’s infamous withdrawal from Afghanistan. Maguire said he deployed to Afghanistan in 2012 while working for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).

“I flew out of KAIA at least once a week, usually to Bagram Air Field (BAF) in a Blackhawk, but occasionally to Kandahar (KAF) in a C-130. I won’t go into the details here, but this was personal to me, as it was for everyone who served in Afghanistan,” Maguire said.

Maguire outlined his reasons for supporting the Republican candidate in November, including issues important to voters across the country, such as Israel, border security and technological advancement.

He said that while he doesn’t agree with all of Trump’s arguments, his vocal support is driven in large part by his belief that “our justice system is being used as a weapon against Trump.”

“There is no greater country in the world than America, but we have had a difficult decade. America is blessed with a strong Constitution, abundant natural resources and a diverse people. The way to get out of this is to focus on our strengths: liberalism and hard work. We need to start building again. I wish President Trump the best of luck,” Maguire said.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg on Thursday found Trump guilty of all 34 felony counts alleging he falsified business records in connection with election interference in 2016. The 12-member jury reached a verdict after two days of deliberations, but Republicans and many legal experts condemned the verdict.

Trump is scheduled to be sentenced on July 11, just four days before the Republican National Convention.
