Police announced Friday they have arrested an illegal immigrant they believe is responsible for the murders of a family of four in upstate New York last month.
Irondequite Police shared in a post via X the arrest of 34-year-old Julio Cesar Pimentel Soriano, from the Dominican Republic. Pimentel Soriano is wanted in his home country for another 2019 murder.
On Aug. 31, Flame Ubaldo, 30, Marangere Moreno-Santiago, 26, Evangeline Ubaldo-Moreno, 4, and Sebastian Ubaldo-Moreno, 2, were killed in their Irondequoit home.
A Haitian illegal immigrant facing multiple charges was released at the U.S. border last year.
“It was a horrific scene,” Irondequoit Police Chief Scott Peters said at a news conference. “In nearly 32 years on the job, I've never seen anything like this.”
After an extensive investigation, police arrested Julio Cesar Pimentel Soriano on September 7.

“Mr. Soriano appears to have illegally entered the island of Puerto Rico and obtained a false New York ID,” the Irondequoit Police Department post read. “That ID allowed him to travel freely from Puerto Rico to the mainland United States.”
“My condolences go out to the family, friends and neighbors,” Irondequoit Town Mayor Andre Evans told Spectrum News. “It's unfortunate that this happened, but the Town Council and I will work with the police department and allow them to do whatever it takes to bring these people to justice using all available means.”

The family's bodies were discovered in the basement while firefighters were working to extinguish multiple fires at the home that morning, and police later determined their deaths were unrelated to the fires.

For the past two weeks, a makeshift prayer area has been set up on the front porch of the Moreno family home on Knapp Street in Irondequoit, featuring stuffed animals and photos of the victims.
Police say limited information will be released at this time, but efforts to seek justice for the Moreno family continue as part of the investigation by the Irondequite Police Department.
