Illegal crossings at northern border shatter record as Biden admin boasts 40% drop in encounters at southern border: Report

According to data obtained by the Department of Homeland Security, New York PostIllegal crossings at the northern border hit a record high in June.

The Washington Post reported that about 3,600 people crossed into the United States illegally from Canada in June, breaking last month’s record.

“Family units are being released, while single individuals are being held in custody awaiting trial.”

For the entire fiscal year 2022, there were a total of 2,238 illegal crossings at the northern border, which jumped to 10,021 in 2023. Customs and Border Protection Data shows that in just the first nine months of fiscal year 2024, the number of people illegally crossing the northern border reached about 16,400, including the latest report from The Washington Post.

President Joe Biden announced the executive order in early June, which the administration claimed would go a long way toward cracking down on illegal immigration. The measure bans individuals attempting to enter the U.S. illegally between ports of entry on the southern border, but only if the number of encounters averages more than 2,500 people over a seven-day period. The order includes a number of exceptions, including unaccompanied minors, people experiencing medical emergencies, and victims of “severe forms” of human trafficking. Illegal immigrants who apply for asylum at a port of entry or use the administration’s CBP One app will not be barred.

The Biden administration has been touting its efforts to create more so-called “legal pathways” for illegal immigrants to enter the U.S. Less than a month after announcing the new executive order, the administration’s Department of Homeland Security report Encounters at the southwest border have fallen by more than 40%, though that estimate doesn’t include those who escaped or those who used the CBP One app.

The Post recently reported that the Biden administration 100,000 illegal immigrants Plans to enter the country in June.

A Border Patrol official on the northern border told the news outlet that Biden’s executive order “doesn’t affect us.”

“Family units will be released and single individuals will be detained awaiting trial,” a source told The Post.

John Fehr, research director at the Center for Immigration Studies, previously told Blaze News that “everything the Biden administration has done on immigration has been explicitly designed to undermine enforcement of the nation’s immigration laws, resulting in an unprecedented surge in illegal immigration.”

“To put an end to the lawlessness, the administration will have to significantly increase its arrests and deportations of illegal immigrants and impose stiff penalties on those who cross the border and the businesses that employ them,” Fehle added.
