Former congressman George Santos lies and claims he’s too busy to return to politics — he’s making a documentary film and wants to be a reality TV star.
“I’m working on movies, documentaries and reality TV,” said the fact-challenged Republican. city-state. “So I have a lot of things I’m working on right now, and I’d rather work on that than go into a messy primary and work on it.” [Democratic Rep.] Tom Suozzi. ”
Mr. Suozzi won a special election last month to serve out the remainder of his term in New York’s 3rd Congressional District, which covers suburban Nassau County and parts of northern Queens, after Mr. Santos became the sixth lawmaker ever to be expelled. did.
This seat is being contested again in the general election this November.
Santos was expelled from Congress, much of his party’s blessing, following a scathing report from the House Ethics Committee that claimed he “blatantly stole from his campaign” and lied to donors.
Santos has long been under fire since it was revealed in late 2022 that he had fabricated much of his backstory.
He was also indicted on about 23 counts last year, including wire fraud, making material false statements to the FEC, aggravated identity theft and falsifying records.
Sources say the move to reality TV has long seemed like a good move for Santos, despite his inability to keep it real.
“The truth is, this man has never been in Congress.” Shortly after Santos’ ouster was announced, comedian John Oliver declared on his HBO show “Last Week Tonight.” .
Oliver isn’t the only one who thinks so.
“I would be surprised if that were the case. [Santos] We haven’t really talked about anything yet,” casting director and former MTV reality star Jason Cornwell told the Post in a December interview. “Someone’s going to get him, lock him into his contract, and work things out from there.”
