Activists Urge Dodgers to Skip White House Celebration

Immigrant rights advocates are urging the Los Angeles Dodgers to decline their invitation to celebrate the World Series win at the White House.

In an Instagram statement, the National Network of Day Labor Organizations (NDLON) expressed concern that attending the event could lend legitimacy to President Trump.

“The Dodgers should not go to the White House. We must not normalize Donald Trump. Every day, we see human rights abuses that hurt our communities. Let’s unite with Los Angeles and California to say NO to Donald Trump!” the group stated.

They continued, “Los Angeles is driven by immigrants, hardworking families, and dreamers. While we honor champions, we also stand for justice, dignity, and community love. Stand with us, Dodgers. Stand with the city that always supports you.”

The organization also published an open letter asking Dodgers fans to sign a petition urging the team to decline the White House invitation.

“By visiting a president who has exploited his power to harm the most vulnerable, our team would be turning its back on those who fill the stadiums, wear our jerseys, and remain loyal,” the letter stated.

It further emphasized, “Encouraging our team to take a principled stand will show the White House that Los Angeles values compassion, dignity, and solidarity with our immigrant neighbors.”

As noted previously, the Dodgers faced a challenging situation over the summer when Trump’s administration intensified immigration raids in Los Angeles. This led to protests citywide, and there were reports of federal agents positioned outside the stadium, creating tension.

Responding to the situation, the Dodgers claimed they were not involved in the operations and announced a commitment of $1 million to provide direct economic support to immigrant families affected by recent events.

At the time, Dodgers President and CEO Stan Kasten acknowledged their responsibility to step up for those impacted.
