Increase in Violence Against Law Enforcement Amid Deportation Efforts
There’s a noticeable rise in violence directed at law enforcement as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) amplifies its deportation efforts nationwide. On a recent Tuesday, Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary at DHS, highlighted this trend and the opposition they’re encountering from Democratic politicians.
During the discussion, Fox, the media outlet, played a video showcasing various Democratic leaders in cities like Chicago, suggesting that they are promoting resistance against law enforcement actions.
“It’s really unfortunate that Democrats have decided that violence against law enforcement is OK.”
Chicago’s Democratic Mayor, Brandon Johnson, voiced a need to “remove ICE from our city,” asserting that federal agents have “broken the law” and acted without accountability. Illinois Governor JB Pritzker echoed concerns, stating, “Don’t believe me when I say they’re dismantling the worst gangs. They’re actually targeting peaceful neighborhoods.”
In another instance, Democratic Representative Kweisi Mfume confronted Rep. Jasmine Crockett, who had called for “urban warfare” against the Trump administration. Meanwhile, Rep. Pramila Jayapal referred to ICE as a “slave patrol,” proclaiming that efforts to combat ICE are “inspiring.”
Responding to these sentiments, McLaughlin remarked, “It’s really unfortunate that Democrats have decided that violence against law enforcement is OK. We’re going to keep doing our jobs and ensuring that illegal aliens who commit violent crimes are removed from the streets of Chicago and sanctuary cities across the country.” She emphasized that there would be “no safe haven for illegal aliens who commit violent crimes.”
Meanwhile, Fox News National Correspondent Bill Melugin confirmed a significant uptick in vehicular assaults on federal immigration officers, with 71 vehicle attacks against Customs and Border Protection reported since January 20, 2024, compared to 45 during the same timeframe last year—an increase of 58%. The report highlighted an even more alarming surge in assaults against ICE officers, with 28 vehicle attacks documented since January 20, 2024, in stark contrast to just two incidents recorded in the same period last year, reflecting an astonishing 1,300% increase.
When questioned about DHS’s ongoing recruitment effort to hire an additional 10,000 ICE officers, McLaughlin noted, somewhat humorously, that they’re “looking for the best of the best to get the worst of the worst off the streets,” referencing over 200,000 applicants vying for these positions.
