An Indiana man reportedly stole a liquor truck from a bar’s parking lot and attempted to sell the booze inside to pay off a drug debt. New York Post.
Beau Burchell, 39, was sitting in his car Thursday when he saw a truck loaded with liquor pull up to Cheers Bar in Muncie. When the driver got out, Burchell stole the truck and $12,000 worth of beer and liquor that was inside.
“Nearly 4,000 Indianans have died from opioids in the past decade.”
When the truck was reported stolen, Muncie authorities found it in a cornfield behind a banquet hall, about two miles from where it was originally parked. News Nation.
Once police found the vehicle, they reportedly saw Burchell run into woods near the edge of a field. He was eventually found hiding under some brush and taken into custody.
When questioned by authorities, Burchell admitted to stealing the truck and said he intended to sell all the alcohol inside to pay off debts he owed to the drug industry.
Police estimated the truck was worth about $50,000 and also recovered a skid steer loader worth $60,000. Burchell admitted to stealing the skid steer and turning off the GPS device so it couldn’t be tracked electronically.
The truck was found to have been damaged after Burchell removed the cameras and GPS system, but all of the liquor and beer were safely stored inside the truck.
He was charged with theft and held on $20,000 bail, according to the New York Post.
