Indiana mom pulls daughter from school after 6-year-old left behind on field trip: ‘She thought she was lost’

An Indianapolis mother pulled her first-grader from school after the 6-year-old girl was left alone in an apple orchard after a field trip last week.

Diarra Allen said her daughter Cianni went to Tuttle Orchards in Greenfield, Ind., with the charter school Christel House West Academy last Wednesday.

“My mom called me and said, 'I got a call from school and I left Sianni in the apple orchard,'” she told Fox News Digital over the phone. “I thought she was playing.''

When reality set in, Allen immediately ran out the door, picked up Cianni's father, and rushed to the school to figure out what was going on.

Cianni's teacher told his mother that they counted the animals before leaving the field trip. Allen responded that if the count had been accurate, her daughter would not have gone missing.

After asking school officials for answers, Allen said, “They really didn't have anything to say other than I was right.”

Cianni told her mother that one of her classmates' fathers chaperoned her on a school trip.

“Cianni said he just kept playing because he wasn’t calling.” [her] name. So, she said she looked up a little later and noticed everyone was gone,” Allen said, adding that her daughter went to the apple orchard area to look for someone before going to the pumpkin patch. .

“She said this woman came out of nowhere and was like, 'Hey, what's going on? Are you okay?'” And she was like, 'The school threw me out.' ”

Cianni was then taken to an office and detained until the principal picked him up.

“When we got to school, she hadn't come yet, but I didn't know it,” her mother said. “They were at school by the time they noticed Sianni was missing.”

The drive between the school and the orchard is about an hour, Allen said, meaning first-graders will miss about 2.5 hours of in-school care.

Allen said past field trips that her oldest daughter and Sianni have attended through Christel House West Academy have been uneventful.

Allen said Cianni and her parents were not reunited until 4:30 p.m. on the day of the field trip. Along with Sianni, she also pulled her eldest daughter out of school.

Allen said she remains confused and feels deceived as to who was accompanying her daughter at the time of the incident. According to the mother, two classes were on a field trip at the time, and it is believed that 50 students participated.

Cianni's mother said: “He was so heartbroken and distraught. He didn't think he would see us again. We thought he was lost.”
