Injured Karl-Anthony Towns sits out vs. 76ers, Knicks rookie gets first start

Rookie center Ariel Fuchport has made his first start in his NBA career as Karl Anthony Towns failed to play Wednesday night.

The town was listed as suspicious of a home game with Six, where knee pain is repeated again, but he was ruled out shortly before the tip-off.

The All-Star Center appeared to tweak his knees in the fourth quarter of Sunday's defeat in Boston, but after a brief time in the locker room he returned to the game.

Mitchell Robinson (ankle surgery) needs a game that actually ramps up before he could make his season debut later this week, so Tom Thibodeau turned his eyes on the 22-year-old Fukulty towards the middle Six.

The 7-foot Hukporti has shown a flash of impactful play at both ends of the floor in 24 appearances from the bench this season.

The Knicks moved another reserve big man, Jerichosims, at a trade deadline earlier this month.

Former Knicks guard Quentin Grimes is already on the third team since Detroit was dealt with by the Knicks before trade deadline last year.

Previous first-round picks went from the Mavericks to the Sixth at this year's deadline. The Grimes averaged 14.9 points in their first seven appearances for the Six.

“Amazing guy. Hardworking. Strong on both sides of the ball. I think he's a great player,” Thibodeau said. “He suffered a few injuries and probably slowed him down a bit, but he was a great player.”

Sixers coach Nick Nurse occasionally used the Grimes as point guard.

Joel Embiid (knee) was still there for Six, who also had veteran security guards Kyle Lowry (hip) and Eric Gordon who had wrist surgery on Tuesday.
