Remember that 2000’s cult classic “Idiocracy,” where the human race descends to stupidity in a far-off dystopian future? Well, it looks like we’ve arrived a few centuries early.
Big-box retailer Costco announced it’s recalling nearly 80,000 pound of butter this week. No, not because it’s expired or contaminated with some harmful bacteria — but because they forgot to add a warning label that the product “Contains Milk.”
Think of all those hoodwinked consumers! Imagine, you’re taking a peaceful trip to Costco to pick up your weekly groceries. You’re a savvy consumer: you trust the experts and make sure to check all the warning labels. So when you see that block of creamy butter doesn’t have a dairy warning, you know you’re safe. You wore your mask after all, to keep yourself and others safe, so you know the experts would never steer you wrong. Then bam! You put down a tray of homemade cookies later that afternoon, and your lactose-phobic husband and children drop dead before your eyes.

Damn you, Costco!
Is this really the scenario Food and Drug Administration bureaucrats think they’re protecting us from? “It’s time to check your fridge,” warns Food & Wine magazine, the first outlet to report on the recall. As if Americans don’t know that butter is dairy, or that anyone has ever actually read that allergen label. You don’t need more than a room temperature IQ to know that butter obviously contains milk, as a colonial butter churning field trip teaches every elementary school student in America.
Don’t the idiots at the FDA have anything better to do? How about you just give me a refund instead? As even Morning Joe pointed out the other day, butter is an astronomical $7 in Biden’s economy.
Most Americans would rightfully look at this and scoff. To do otherwise, you either need an extremely high regard for the experts, or an extremely low regard for the American people. Yet the people who would defend it — the real high rollers of any idiocracy — would seem to have both in ample supply.
