Police Chase of Attempted Murder Suspect in Los Angeles

A tense police pursuit of a suspect wanted for attempted murder reached a dramatic conclusion when officers collided with the fleeing driver’s Range Rover.

At around 7:15 a.m., officers from the Santa Monica Police Department initiated the chase at the interchange of Interstate 405 and Highway 118 in the San Fernando Valley after failing to apprehend him earlier.

The suspect was spotted weaving through traffic to evade law enforcement as the situation escalated. Officers then sought assistance from the California Highway Patrol, continuing the pursuit on the southbound 405 Freeway in Pacoima.

As the suspect exited the highway in Koreatown, he dangerously maneuvered through traffic, ultimately swerving into oncoming lanes along Vermont Avenue and re-entering eastbound on I-10.

CHP officers pursued the Range Rover, which hit speeds over 160 mph, recklessly navigating through the morning rush hour.

The chase concluded when the suspect nearly collided with a box truck on Paramount Boulevard, swerved to avoid it, crashed into a median, and the Range Rover rolled at a low speed in the center of the road.

A CHP vehicle subsequently struck the Range Rover, bringing it to a halt. Officers exited their vehicles with weapons drawn, as the driver attempted to open the passenger door. He was forcibly removed from the car and arrested.

This suspect was previously sought after a road rage incident on July 3, during which he allegedly fired shots at another driver’s vehicle. Thankfully, the victim was unharmed, but the suspect had evaded capture until this pursuit.

The Santa Monica Police Department informed the California Post that detectives are planning to pursue attempted murder charges against the suspect. If those charges aren’t secured, they might consider charges for assault with a deadly weapon instead, according to the department.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the chase.
