International manhunt underway for man who threw hot coffee on infant

An international manhunt is underway to track down a suspect who poured hot coffee on a baby in an Australian park late last month.

Queensland Police said the coward assaulted the baby at Hanlon Park, Stones Corner, about midday on August 27.

At that moment, a man approached an innocent family, poured hot liquid on the child, and fled the scene.

Emergency services were called and the baby was taken to hospital with “severe burns”, Queensland Police said in a press release.

The child has since been released from the hospital.

Detectives from the Morningside Child Protection Investigation Unit identified the suspect as a 33-year-old “foreign national.”

Queensland Police said the suspect has since fled Australia.

Queensland Police Officer Paul Dalton said a warrant had been issued for his arrest for “intent to cause grievous bodily harm”.

Mr Dalton described the attack on the toddler as the “most despicable” he had seen in his decades-long career.

“I've seen a lot of disgusting behaviour, but looking at this situation, I can't think of anything more unguarded, with a young mother and her baby sitting on the ground in such a vulnerable situation,” Dalton said.

The ministry is conducting the investigation in cooperation with domestic and international partners.

Meanwhile, a friend of the family has set up a GoFundMe page to help with the infant's recovery.

The page said the boy “faces a lengthy recovery period and will need to be examined by doctors and specialists.” [and] A hospital appointment.”
