In a shocking incident captured on body camera footage, a Texas father shot his daughter after an argument about President Trump. Chris Harrison, who was intoxicated at the time, was later acquitted of manslaughter charges for the death of his 23-year-old daughter, Lucy Harrison.
He recounted that when Lucy asked if he had a gun, he confirmed, pulled out his Glock 9mm, and claimed it accidentally discharged. “She said, ‘Do you have a gun?’ and I replied, ‘Yes.’ I pulled it out, and it just went off,” he told police in a video presented by Cheshire Coroner’s Court.
Lucy had been visiting from England when she was shot in the chest at their home in Prosper, about 55 miles north of Dallas, on January 10, 2025. Chris, an immigrant to the U.S. since Lucy was young, had faced struggles with alcoholism, even admitting to discarding three glasses of wine on the day of the incident.
In the footage, Chris explained how he retrieved the gun, which he claimed was typically stored in a locked box, just as Lucy was preparing to leave for the airport. He commented that when he lifted the weapon, it made a sound, suggesting it might have been improperly stored.
Located near him, Lucy’s boyfriend, Sam Littler, was visible in distress, hands on his head as Chris recounted the events to law enforcement. According to Littler, the argument stemmed from a recurring disagreement about Trump’s policies, which often led to heated exchanges between father and daughter.
Although initially under investigation for manslaughter, Chris was not charged after a grand jury in Texas opted not to indict him. In a statement read at a recent court hearing, Chris described an argument about the gun preceding the shooting. He recalled, “As I lifted the gun to show her, I suddenly heard a loud bang. I couldn’t understand what was happening. Lucy immediately collapsed.”
However, the coroner pointed out that the nature of Lucy’s injury, from across the room, contradicted Chris’s narrative. Senior coroner Jacqueline Devonish noted the implausibility of his claim that he wouldn’t have checked for bullets before aiming. “To shoot my daughter in the chest while she was standing there, I would have had to point the gun at her,” she stated.
In 2023, Chris experienced an alcoholic seizure, leading to a coma. On that fateful day, he consumed a large carton of white wine but didn’t believe he was intoxicated when he shot Lucy shortly before 3 p.m. Lucy’s death was classified as accidental by a Texas grand jury last June, a ruling that her mother, Jane Coates, found “baffling” and “beyond comprehension.”
