On Saturday, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff raised alarms about Iran, suggesting the country might be just a week away from acquiring materials suitable for making bombs. This statement brings into focus the immediate actions President Donald Trump could consider to address this pressing issue.
Witkoff mentioned that Iran’s enrichment levels have reached around 60% and predicted the availability of bomb-making materials within a week. Speaking on a program with Lara Trump, he emphasized that this alarming situation emerges in spite of Trump’s established “zero enrichment” stance, accusing Iran of exceeding the standards set for civilian nuclear programs.
“That can’t happen,” he stated firmly, adding that Iran needs to adhere to these standards until they can prove their intentions.
Interestingly, Witkoff indicated that Trump is pondering why Iran hasn’t reconsidered its approach even with increased U.S. military presence in the region. “With all the naval power we have, why don’t they reach out and declare their lack of need for weapons?” he asked.
However, external pressures are not the only concern. The Iranian regime is also grappling with unrest within its own population, which has seen violent crackdowns on protests.
Meanwhile, Exile Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi has been vocal about strategies to undermine the Iranian leadership, expressing optimism that Trump would support efforts to overthrow the regime. Pahlavi has suggested various tactics, such as targeting the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, stopping illicit oil transport operations that finance the regime, and advocating for the release of political prisoners.
Witkoff mentioned that he met Pahlavi at the president’s request, noting, “I think he genuinely cares about the country.” He emphasized that the decisions made would reflect Trump’s policies rather than Pahlavi’s individual views. Witkoff acknowledged that Trump is interested in a variety of opinions and remains open to new ideas, which he finds commendable.
