Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, stated on Wednesday that the US would incur “irreparable damage” if President Trump engaged in military actions against Iran following a prior call for “unconditional surrender.”
Khamenei expressed that urging Iran to surrender is unwise in a post on X.
This statement comes amidst heightened tensions stemming from Trump’s rhetoric, which has escalated since the conflict began six days ago with a significant Israeli offensive. Trump demanded Iran’s unconditional surrender in a post on Tuesday, stating, “We can take out” Khamenei himself.
Interestingly, it was noted that Trump seemed to refer to “us” in the context of an air campaign exclusively conducted by Israel.
Continuing its operations, Israel announced on Wednesday that it was carrying out a “Big Blow,” targeting 40 different sites related to Iran, according to the Israeli Defense Forces.
The Republican Party, particularly the MAGA segment, is experiencing divisions over these issues, complicating Trump’s decision-making process. Notably, some criticism has emerged from figures like Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Tucker Carlson, who expressed their doubts regarding the situation in Iran.
On Wednesday, Trump is expected to meet with the White House Army Secretary of Pakistan following a ceremony. Meanwhile, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth will return to the Senate for budget hearings, aiming to address concerns about Iran and mitigate domestic backlash regarding the potential deployment of US troops.
Senate Republicans are also busy drafting a substantial bill to fund Trump’s agenda. However, Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) is facing strong pushback from GOP members on the Finance Committee, particularly over issues like Medicaid cuts and the rapid phase-out of clean energy tax credits.
