Iran Denies Trump’s Ceasefire Claims

Iran has rebutted President Trump’s assertions that the country has requested a ceasefire, calling his statements “false and baseless” in a straightforward public denial.

According to Iranian state television, the Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmail Baghaei, dismissed Trump’s claims on Wednesday. The President had tweeted that Iran was seeking a ceasefire, but mentioned that the United States would only consider it if the Strait of Hormuz was open for shipping.

In his post, Trump stated, “Iran’s new regime president, far less radical and far more enlightened than his predecessor, has just asked the United States for a ceasefire! We will consider when the Strait of Hormuz will be open, free, and transparent. Until then, we are going to blow Iran into oblivion, or, as they say, back into the Stone Age!”

The paramilitary Revolutionary Guards in Iran promptly issued their own response, asserting that the Strait of Hormuz was firmly controlled by Iranian forces. They declared, “This strait will not be opened to this nation’s enemies by a ridiculous display by the president of the United States.”

Recently, Iran has effectively blocked a major oil chokepoint responsible for carrying roughly 20% of the world’s oil, causing a surge in oil prices worldwide.

On another note, U.S. gas prices have surpassed an average of $4 per gallon for the first time since 2022, a situation analysts predict will lead to higher prices for food products as transportation costs rise.

In a telephone interview prior to a televised address, Trump mentioned that the U.S. would soon conclude its military involvement in Iran, though he refrained from providing a specific timeline. He added, “I can’t say exactly. … We’ll be leaving soon.” However, he also indicated that once U.S. forces withdrew, there could be “spot strikes” on targets if necessary.
