Huckabee Claims Iran Aims to Destroy the US
Mike Huckabee, the U.S. Ambassador to Israel, recently stated at the Israel National Security Research Council that President Donald Trump has made it unequivocally clear that he will not permit Iran to develop nuclear weapons.
According to a report from Iran International, Iran is apparently advancing its development of chemical and biological warheads for ballistic missiles. This comes amid increasing domestic unrest in Iran, with a collapsing economy and soaring inflation.
The report, citing unnamed military and security sources, indicates that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps is hastening the creation of unconventional missile payloads while simultaneously upgrading its command and control infrastructure. If these claims are confirmed, they could raise significant concerns in both Washington and Israel, especially as the Iranian government grapples with rising discontent at home.
This report arrives just as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu prepares for a meeting with President Trump. Issues surrounding Iran’s missile capabilities and broader regional security threats are expected to take center stage, according to officials acquainted with the discussions. They are also likely to cover the ongoing conflict in Gaza, along with worries from U.S. officials that Netanyahu is impeding advances related to post-war frameworks and ceasefire discussions.
Iran’s Missile Developments
It seems that missile infrastructure is being relocated and expanded, with some launch sites reportedly moving to eastern Iran to enhance their security. The Revolutionary Guards are said to be exploring non-conventional warhead designs for their long-range missiles.
I guess it’s worth noting that Iran has consistently denied pursuing chemical or biological weaponry, stating that its missile program is purely defensive. However, Western governments have frequently accused the Islamic Republic of breaching international standards.
The report on missile developments coincides with rising economic turmoil in Iran. Reports indicate that shopkeepers in Tehran have shut down the central market for the second consecutive day as a protest against inflation and the devaluation of the national currency.
On social media, there’s been chatter about large crowds in Tehran marching and chanting against the regime. The National Council of Resistance of Iran claims that protests have spread to multiple commercial areas, and security forces are reportedly on high alert. Although, of course, these claims couldn’t be independently verified.
Public Anger Amid Economic Crisis
Maryam Rajavi, president-elect of the NCRI, has characterized the protests as a manifestation of public frustration over high costs and government oppression. She’s urging people to support the striking shopkeepers.
In terms of economic indicators, the Iranian rial has apparently plummeted to a record low against the U.S. dollar. Official statistics point to an inflation rate skyrocketing to 52.6% year-on-year as of December, culminating in an annual average inflation rate of 42.2%. Social media is chock-full of videos capturing discontent among traditional regime supporters, particularly merchants.
