Iran Executes Three for Protest-Related Charges
The Iranian government announced on Thursday that it executed three men, one of whom was just 19 and part of the national wrestling team, on charges including murder and “war against God.”
Protests had ignited in December 2025, escalating to millions voicing dissent until the regime called for an end to demonstrations in February. Reports indicate that over 30,000 protesters lost their lives at the hands of Iranian security forces during this period. Additionally, thousands were arrested en masse, particularly in January and February, including Mehdi Ghasemi, Saeed Davoudi, and Saleh Mohammadi, the latter of whom was executed this week.
According to a report, the regime alleged that the men used knives and swords to kill two police officers during the protests. This claim has been frequently reiterated by Iranian officials regarding various protesters. They were also convicted of “mohalebe,” which translates to “waging war against God,” on the grounds that they were acting on behalf of Israel and the United States.
The U.S. State Department issued a statement urging Iran to refrain from further bloodshed. Following Mohammadi’s arrest, they expressed, “The Islamic Republic of Iran’s regime is slaughtering young people and destroying Iran’s future.” They called for the halt of any executions of individuals, emphasizing that everyone should be able to exercise their fundamental rights without fear of punishment.
President Donald Trump had previously mentioned military action against Iran, warning that the U.S. would be “locked down, loaded and ready to go” if the regime harmed peaceful protesters. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi later stated that while a hanging had been scheduled, it was ultimately canceled by the country’s leadership, denying that the regime executes arrested demonstrators.
Iran is infamous for branding anti-government protesters as “waging war against God,” a serious charge that carries the death penalty. The Trump administration, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, has condemned the regime’s violent approach to dissidents, affirming the U.S.’s support for the courageous people of Iran. The State Department took measures prior to the outbreak of hostilities by revoking travel privileges for high-ranking officials linked to the regime’s brutal repression.
