Iran Conducts Military Drills in the Persian Gulf

On Friday, Iran’s military executed a range of missile launches aimed at simulating responses to potential foreign threats. This included both ballistic and cruise missiles targeting mock sites near the Persian Gulf.

The exercises, organized by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Navy, kicked off the previous day in the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman. Various missile models, including the Qadr 110, Qadr 380, and Qadr 360, were prominently featured, with reports indicating significant deployment on Friday, according to Iranian state media.

Footage broadcasted showed missiles being launched successfully, hitting their designated targets.

State media praised the drills, claiming they showcased the “steadfast spirit and resistance” of Iranian maritime forces in the face of perceived threats.

These military operations follow an earlier exercise that came in the wake of the Israeli-Iranian conflict in June, which reportedly resulted in nearly 1,100 fatalities, including military personnel and nuclear experts in Iran. Iranian missile strikes during that time reportedly led to 28 deaths in Israel.

Since that conflict, Iran has positioned itself as more determined than ever to counter possible future Israeli actions, initiating its first naval drills in August.

The paramilitary Revolutionary Guards oversee operations within the Persian Gulf, particularly the critical Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, the National Navy is in charge of activities beyond this narrow waterway.

Historically, Iran has issued threats regarding the potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which carries a staggering 20% of the global oil trade, as highlighted by various analysts.

Adding to these dynamics, the U.S. Navy maintains a presence in the region through its Bahrain-based 5th Fleet, focused on ensuring that critical shipping routes remain accessible.
