Iran Launches Missiles Throughout the Middle East as Trump Issues Oil Hub Threat

Middle East Tensions Escalate Amid Military Strikes

TEHRAN – Iran launched missiles throughout the Middle East on Tuesday, coinciding with new explosions in its capital following threats from US President Donald Trump towards key Iranian infrastructures like oil export hubs and power plants.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that over half of their military goals had been met. However, both he and Trump did not provide a specific timeline for their military operations that have triggered a month-long conflict affecting global markets.

As sirens rang out in Jerusalem, the Israeli military reported responding to another Iranian missile attack, while local media in Iran noted fresh explosions in Tehran, leading to power outages in some areas.

Additionally, four Israeli soldiers were reported killed in clashes in southern Lebanon, where the conflict has spilled over into fighting with Hezbollah, an Iranian ally.

Prior to the fresh hostilities in Tehran, Israel cautioned residents west of the city regarding potential military actions targeting military infrastructure.

Meanwhile, Iran fired a fresh wave of missiles at Gulf states, describing them as bases for US operations.

In Dubai, an Iranian missile strike reportedly ignited a fire on a Kuwaiti oil tanker, injuring four individuals with debris from an intercepted projectile, raising concerns about the region’s stability.

Saudi authorities announced the interception of eight ballistic missiles hours after Iran’s foreign minister urged Riyadh to remove American forces.

Trump warned recently that the US military would obliterate “every power plant, oil well, Kharg Island, and maybe every desalination plant!” unless a peace deal was signed that included reopening the crucial Strait of Hormuz.

However, a report indicated that he was also willing to end the conflict even if the strait remained mostly blocked, which could enhance Iran’s control over it.

Iran’s parliamentary committee, not backing down, voted to introduce tolls for vessels traversing the strait—critical for global oil—while completely barring ships from the US and Israel.

Once before the war, the strait remained open; Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently discussed forming a “coalition” to oppose Iran’s toll plans, stating that such a toll could set a dangerous precedent for international waterways.

Trump commented that the US was in touch with a “more reasonable regime” in Tehran, accusing the Iranian government of simultaneously denying dialogue and planning for a ground invasion. Meanwhile, Netanyahu claimed significant military strides had been made, such as decimating Iran’s industrial capabilities.

Netanyahu noted they were “definitely over the halfway point” in terms of military objectives but avoided pinning down a schedule for completion.

With war and rising oil prices being unpopular in the US, Rubio stated that the conflict might drag on more than “weeks,” while Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi sought Trump’s aid in resolving the war during a press conference.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, was set to travel to Beijing to discuss mutual global interests while expressing Pakistan’s willingness to mediate talks between the US and Iran.

Trump claimed direct communication with unnamed Iranian officials; however, Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson denied substantial talks, stating the US has merely sent requests through intermediaries.

Despite the ongoing strikes, residents in Tehran are striving for a semblance of normalcy. A 27-year-old dental assistant remarked that even brief moments spent at a café allowed her to briefly escape the looming weight of war, though reality soon returns home with her.

Conflict in Lebanon

On another front, Israel has been persistently attacking Lebanon, particularly Beirut, targeting Hezbollah, which retaliated with rockets following the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.

Lebanon’s UN mission reported that two Indonesian peacekeepers were killed, with two others seriously injured due to an unexplained explosion destroying a vehicle. An inquiry is underway to determine responsibility.

France has called for an emergency UN Security Council meeting in light of the escalating situation, while the finance ministers of the G7 nations convened in Paris to address the war’s economic ramifications.

Market analysts have cautioned that a US ground operation or extensive Iranian retaliation could drive oil prices to unprecedented levels similar to the 2008 commodity boom.

Meanwhile, Iran-aligned Houthi rebels in Yemen have intensified their actions, launching missiles and drones at Israel and threatening shipping in both the Red Sea and the Gulf.
