On Friday, two U.S. service members lost their lives while defending against a series of Iranian missile and drone strikes in Jordan. Additionally, a third service member is currently missing, according to a statement from U.S. Central Command released on Saturday.
“On July 17, two U.S. service members in Jordan were killed during combat as U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) and partner forces responded to Iranian attacks,” the command noted.
Moreover, one military member is unaccounted for, classified as missing in action.
A recent video, dated July 17, 2026, displayed a missile launched by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards aimed toward an American position.
This incident marks the first fatality for U.S. military forces since President Trump resumed hostilities with Iran last week.
In the aftermath of the attacks, four additional service members were medically evacuated to a hospital in Jordan but have since been released, while others who suffered minor injuries have returned to their duties.
The barrage consisted of both ballistic missiles and drones targeting American and allied forces stationed in Jordan.
An investigation into the situation is currently underway.
This attack represents one of the most severe days for U.S. forces in the region in months, highlighting the escalating threat from the Iranian government as tensions continue to rise.
Centcom has not disclosed the specific location of the attack in Jordan or the details surrounding how the soldiers were killed, citing concerns for the families involved.
The identities of the fallen soldiers will not be released for at least 24 hours after notifying their next of kin.
Recently, the U.S. military has encountered persistent attacks from Iranian forces and their proxies throughout the Middle East.
This story is still developing, and updates will follow.
