Meta Platforms saw a significant rise in its shares, surging over 12% on Thursday after the tech giant released its second-quarter financial results, which exceeded street estimates.
Investor enthusiasm for Meta’s stock persists, especially as management forecasted revenue of at least $47.5 billion for the current quarter, surpassing the expected $46.14 billion.
Since early April, Meta’s stock has climbed roughly 62%, reflecting a solid recovery.
The impressive financial performance highlights the critical role that investments in artificial intelligence (AI) are playing in enhancing their core business, particularly in advertising.
In the second quarter, Meta reported $465.6 billion in revenue from advertising, a reduction from the consensus estimate of $43.97 billion.
Today, Meta’s stock continues to gain traction. Daily active users across its suite of apps increased by 50 million, and the loss from its metaverse division was $4.53 billion, which, while still substantial, was less than anticipated.
It’s worth mentioning that these revenue results came just a day after CEO Mark Zuckerberg discussed advancements in Superintelligence.
Though Meta’s stock has already seen significant gains, Bank of America analyst Justin Post considers it a leading choice in the AI sector.
In a research note following the revenue report, Post raised his price target for the company to $900, asserting that new advertising features will bolster confidence in Meta’s AI advertising engine.
Analysts have noted that Meta’s optimistic guidance for the third quarter suggests their AI investments are paying off. Overall, experts recommend investing in Meta shares, as the company seems poised to take a leading role in the emerging AI landscape.
The potential drivers for the second half of 2025 include increased user engagement and advertising on platforms like Threads and WhatsApp.
Even with the notable gains since April, Meta stock currently has a forward price multiple of about 27, which is fairly reasonable compared to other top AI companies.
