Israel Agrees to Trump-Backed Ceasefire Proposal

Israel has accepted a 60-day ceasefire proposal initiated by the Trump administration. In a recent post on Truth Social, Donald Trump mentioned that all political factions must collaborate to end the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.

“My representative held a lengthy and productive meeting with the Israelis in Gaza today,” Trump stated. “Israel is on board with the conditions needed to achieve a 60-day ceasefire, during which we will engage with all political parties to conclude the war.” He added, “The Catalans and Egyptians, who have worked tirelessly for peace, will present the final proposal. I truly hope Hamas seizes this opportunity for the greater good of the region, as things are unlikely to improve — they might only worsen. Thanks for your attention to this matter!”

On Monday, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar emphasized Israel’s genuine intent to secure a hostage agreement and achieve a ceasefire in Gaza.

In his remarks, Saar indicated that Israel had accepted a recent proposal from special envoy Steve Witkov but dismissed Hamas for failing to include a lasting ceasefire plan or a strategy for withdrawing Israeli forces from Gaza. Witkov is expected to advance negotiations in Cairo shortly.

Trump is pressing Israel to conclude its operations in Gaza and facilitate a hostage exchange. Ending these military actions is seen as a crucial step toward expanding Trump’s vision for a new approach to the Abraham Accords.

Saar expressed hope for a new era of peace, highlighting the sacrifices made by both soldiers and civilians. He mentioned, “Israel is keen to broaden peace and normalization within the framework of the Abraham Accords. We want to include neighboring countries like Syria and Lebanon while ensuring that Israel’s key interests and security are safeguarded.”

Previously, Trump has not specified which countries are considering normalizing relations with Israel. Nonetheless, nations such as Saudi Arabia have made their position clear: normalization is unlikely while the Palestinian plight continues amid the Israel-Hamas conflict.
