Israeli authorities said Tuesday that one of the hostages kidnapped during an Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israel has been rescued.
The Israeli Ministry of Defense (IDF) In a post Social media platform X reported that Kaied Farhan al-Qadi, 52, had been rescued from Hamas custody. The army said his health was stable and he would undergo medical examinations at a hospital.
“Israeli security forces will continue to use all available means to return the hostages to their home country,” the IDF wrote.
The Associated Press reported that Arkady worked as a security guard at a packing factory in Magen Kibbutz, one of the rural villages attacked on October 7. Arkady has two wives and 11 children, according to the AP.
The news agency also reported that Israel's Channel 12 aired footage of his family running around the hospital where he was taken after hearing the news.
His rescue comes as the United States and its regional allies try to push for a ceasefire agreement to release remaining hostages in Israel's war with Hamas. Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited the Middle East last week to push for a deal but returned home without reaching any major agreement.
The initial attacks that sparked war in the region left about 1,200 people dead and Hamas fighters abducted about 250. The Associated Press reported that Hamas is still holding about 110 hostages, a third of whom are believed to be dead.
According to the Associated Press, Israel has rescued a total of eight hostages so far, and more than 100 hostages were freed last year under a temporary ceasefire and hostage release agreement.
