Israel’s Military Operation Against Iran
On June 12, 2025, following what Israel denoted as a “first attack” from Iran, the country declared a state of emergency and prepared for retaliation.
In a televised address after the strike in Tehran, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu detailed the military operation known as Operation Raisinglion. He emphasized that this action was aimed at countering the existential threat posed by Iran.
“Some time ago, Israel launched Operation Raisinglion, a targeted military operation to roll back Iran’s threat to Israel’s very survival,” Netanyahu stated. “This operation will continue for a few days necessary to remove this threat. For ten years, Tehran’s leaders have openly sought the destruction of Israel.”
Netanyahu underscored the urgency of the situation, calling it a “very clear and current danger” to Israel’s existence. He explained that the operation specifically targeted key components of Iran’s nuclear program, including major facilities and influential military figures.
Israeli military officials believe that Iran is advancing a clandestine initiative to develop nuclear weapons. Consequently, Israel prepared for a possible extensive retaliation, restricting school sessions and non-essential work to brace for what they fear could be a larger Iranian response.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio clarified that the United States had no involvement in the recent strike, stating, “Tonight, Israel has taken a one-sided action against Iran. Our priority is protecting U.S. troops in the region.” He reiterated that Israel considered this action necessary for self-defense.
Rubio remarked, “Israel advised us that they believe this action is necessary for self-defense. We have taken measures to ensure the safety of our troops.” He stressed the importance of preventing any Iranian threats to U.S. interests.
Senator Ted Cruz defended Israel’s actions, asserting, “Israel is acting to protect itself, and tonight we should clearly stand with the nation of Israel.” He highlighted the precarious position of Israel surrounded by nations that threaten its existence.
