Israel Cancels Independence Day Celebrations Amid Raging Wildfires, Arson Suspected: ‘Worst Fires In Country’s History’

Road closures and mass evacuation paralyzed the nation, and Israel was forced to cancel the Independence Day Torchlight Ceremony due to a massive wildfire that broke out near Jerusalem on Wednesday.

“Our volunteers were searching for a car that had their bodies abandoned on the highway. It was back on October 7th,” Eribeel, president of United Hatzara Ambulance Services, told the American media.

Strong winds ignited more wildfires, starting in the forest near Jerusalem. Route 1 roads linking Jerusalem to Tel Aviv have been closed due to a fire, forcing at least 10 communities to be evacuated.
