Israel Cautions That Iranian Missiles Could Hit Berlin, London, or Paris

Israel Urges Europe to Respond to Iranian Threats

Israel has issued a warning that European nations can’t afford to remain passive in the current conflict, especially as Iran has shown its capability to launch missiles targeting major cities like Berlin, London, and Paris.

On Friday, Iran made an attempt to launch a ballistic missile at the Chagos Islands, a British overseas territory. This strike was likely aimed at a military base on Diego Garcia Island used by British and American forces. Fortunately, the attack did not succeed; it seems one missile had a technical failure, while another was intercepted.

I mean, even though the attack didn’t go as planned, it may have inadvertently showcased something more significant: Iran now possesses missiles with a greater reach than previously acknowledged.

The Chagos Islands are over 2,500 miles away from Iran, yet it has been assumed that their missile capabilities were limited to around 2,000 kilometers. The fact that such an attempt was made raises concerns that areas previously thought to be safe might not be anymore.

According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), during a July operation, they highlighted Iran’s aim to develop a missile with a range extending to 4,000 kilometers, which could pose threats to numerous countries across Europe, Asia, and Africa. Iran, however, denied these allegations.

They emphasized that Iran’s actions represent a global menace, and that they now possess missiles that could reach major European capitals.

“This regime has conducted attacks against a dozen countries in our region and is enhancing its capabilities, which is worrying,” an IDF spokesperson added.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded to these developments by stating that Iran’s missile capabilities mean that European countries can no longer afford to stay on the sidelines in this conflict.

“They launched an intercontinental missile toward Diego Garcia… now they have the capacity to strike deep within Europe,” Netanyahu remarked.

He further expressed concerns about Iran’s intentions to disrupt international sea and energy routes, indicating that it’s essential for world leaders to unite against these threats.

The UK’s Ministry of Defense condemned the Iranian attack, labeling it as reckless, while also identifying broader regional hostilities and hostage situations in places like the Strait of Hormuz as threats not only to British interests but also to its allies.

On the other hand, Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper hinted that the UK’s approach to the conflict remains unchanged, asserting that they would only consider defensive measures against Tehran.

“We’re not getting involved in wider hostilities. It seems we view this differently than the US or Israel,” she said. “However, we are committed to actions that safeguard our national interests, recognizing Iran’s dangers to Gulf states and to shipping routes.”

This stance has faced criticism, particularly from US President Trump, who described the UK as “once great” and expressed doubts about Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s capacity to lead during wartime.
