The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) successfully intercepted a surface-to-surface missile fired by Yemen's Houthi rebels in Tel Aviv early Friday morning local time.
The IDF said an Israeli Arrow system used to shoot down long-range missiles successfully intercepted a Houthi missile outside Israeli airspace.
Missile debris that continued to fly caused a local air raid warning to be issued in the middle of the night. Only mild to moderate injuries were reported, most of which occurred as people rushed to evacuation centers.
The Iranian-backed terrorist proxy group Houthis occupy parts of Yemen. President Donald Trump listed them as a terrorist organization before leaving office. President Joe Biden lifted their terrorist designation, but it was re-designated three years later after months of attacks on ships in the Red Sea and attempted attacks on targets inside Israel.
The Houthis expressed solidarity with Hezbollah, which is currently under attack by Israeli forces in Lebanon.
The missile is the second launched by the Houthis this month. The first attack was also intercepted, but over Israeli airspace.
