Israel eliminates top Hamas leader Ra'ad Sa'ad, planner of October 7 events in Gaza

Israeli Forces Target Senior Hamas Figure

On Saturday, Israel announced the elimination of Ra’ad Sa’ad, who was the head of Hamas’ military arms production and one of the key figures behind the October 7 attacks.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) described Sa’ad as one of the last experienced military personnel in Gaza and a close associate of Hamas’ deputy military chief, Marwan Issa. He had held various high-ranking positions within the organization and played an essential role in its military operations. The IDF further noted that his death “significantly reduces Hamas’ ability to reestablish its capabilities.”

IDF officials informed various sources that, in recent months, Sa’ad had been attempting to rebuild the terrorist group’s military capacity and weapon production, actions that breached a ceasefire agreement brokered by the U.S. It’s worth mentioning that Israel, under this ceasefire, is permitted to target those still engaged in terrorist activities.

Previously, Sa’ad led the Gaza Brigade and is regarded as one of the founding members of Hamas’ military wing. His status in Gaza was notably high, and he was deeply involved in planning the October 7 attacks.

A joint statement from the Israel Defense Forces and the Internal Security Agency (ISA) reported that Sa’ad was accountable for numerous soldier fatalities during the conflict due to explosives produced at his facility.

“Ra’ad Sa’ad was a pivotal figure within Hamas’s military leadership over the past few months and was directly involved in violating the ceasefire agreements put in place,” the IDF and ISA stated in their announcement.
