Israel Has Effectively ‘Lost Sovereignty’ in the North

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Monday that Hezbollah’s relentless shelling has caused Israel to effectively lose sovereignty over the country’s north and forced tens of thousands of Israelis to flee.

The Israel Times report:

“Israel has effectively lost sovereignty over northern areas of its country because people no longer feel safe to return to their homes,” U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said.

In an onstage interview at the Brookings Institution, Blinken reiterated that Israel does not want a war in Lebanon but acknowledged that “Israel may, from their perspective, be prepared to go to war if necessary to defend its interests.”

He says that Hezbollah does not actually want war, that Lebanon does not want war because it would be the main victim, and that Iran does not want war because it wants to preserve Hezbollah for a scenario of direct conflict with Israel.

The Biden administration’s mediation attempts have reportedly also included a proposal to demand Israel withdraw from the strategic Har Dov area, which is partly inside Israeli territory and overlooks Israel’s entire northern region.

Hezbollah recently tent They invaded territory in the Har Dov area, attempting to prevent Israel from defending its border areas.

Ironically, Hezbollah continues to have a presence in the area in violation of the 2006 UN Security Council Resolution 1707, which bars the Iranian-backed group from occupying Lebanon just a few kilometers north and south of the Litani River.

Breitbart News visited a deserted town on the Israeli side of the Israel-Lebanon border, where many Israelis favor diplomacy but are convinced only war can drive Hezbollah from the border.

Part of the Israeli army Expert Israel believes that in any war with Hezbollah it would have to occupy southern Lebanon up to the Litani River, which is a natural dividing line where Lebanon currently occupies most of the highlands along the border, while Israeli communities are in the mountainous lowlands.
