Speaking on MSNBC’s “Katie Tarr Report” on Wednesday, Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) said Israel’s killing of the Hezbollah leader was in retaliation for a rocket attack that killed children inside Israel, and that the reported assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh “makes a cease-fire more difficult to achieve. And what we should be focused on is releasing the hostages and making civilians safe again. That should be our North Star in all of this.”
Moderator Yasmin Vossogian spoke about “the targeted assassination abroad of the Iranian leader of Hamas, the bombing and killing of children in northern Israel on Saturday, and the killing of a Hezbollah leader on the outskirts of Beirut.”
Heinrich responded: “The most valuable thing we can do here – it’s not political, it’s just the right thing – is to secure a ceasefire. Unfortunately, the two recent attacks on the leadership of Hezbollah, on the political leadership of Hamas, make that more difficult to achieve. What we should be focused on is releasing the hostages and making civilians safe again. That should be our North Star in all of this.”
