Israeli Forces Recover Bodies of Hostages from Hamas
Israel has recovered the bodies of three additional hostages who were taken by Hamas during the attacks in October 2023. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) successfully identified the bodies of Offra Keidar, Yonatan Samerano, and Shay Levinson during a special operation conducted on Saturday, according to the Hostage and Missing Family Forum Headquarters.
The Forum expressed deep condolences to the families of Keidar, Samerano, and Levinson, stating, “Our hearts lie with them today. While their return brings immense sadness and grief, it also offers a small measure of comfort after 625 days of uncertainty and anguish.” They emphasized that bringing all hostages back is crucial for the healing process of the nation.
The IDF confirmed the retrieval of the remains from Gaza, highlighting the precise intelligence gathered from various agencies, including the Israeli Security Agency (ISA) and the Hostage Task Force. They reiterated their sorrow for the families and their commitment to recovering all remaining hostages.
According to the Hostage Family Forum, Offra Keidar, who lived in Kibbutzberg, was taken on October 7, 2023, while she was out enjoying the fields she loved. Keidar dedicated 30 years to working on a dairy farm and later transitioned to a petting zoo, where she served for 15 years. Even after her retirement, she continued to work tirelessly.
She was well-known for her love of gardening, and her family, including her beloved poodle, were central to her life. Keidar was 71 years old at the time of her death and was also a mother of three, whose husband, Shmuel Keidar, was tragically murdered by Hamas in Be’eri.
Yonatan Samerano, just 21 years old at his passing, was brutally killed during the attacks. Friends described him as a talented DJ who was always surrounded by people and had ambitions in event production. His vibrant spirit and entrepreneurial mindset were evident even at a young age.
Finally, Shay Levinson, who was only 19, served as a tank commander in the IDF. He became engaged in combat with Hamas forces on October 7. Despite being relatively young, Levinson was known for his athleticism and dedication to both sports and military service. He was involved in a volleyball team that symbolized cooperation between Jewish and Arab communities.
The sorrow surrounding the losses adds a somber layer to the ongoing situation, underscoring the emotional toll on families and the broader community in Israel.
