Former President Donald Trump said Friday in Fayetteville, North Carolina, that Israel should destroy Iran's nuclear weapons program, responding to the Iranian regime's second major ballistic missile attack earlier this week.
In response to questions at a town hall, Trump drew a contrast to the policies of President Joe Biden, who said earlier this week that Israel should not attack Iran's nuclear or oil facilities.
Mr. Trump said:
I heard Biden's story yesterday, I've been under the wing of an airplane. No one had ever done that before. Suddenly, Biden started speaking. However, he only accepts about half of the questions and is usually unable to answer them. [Laughter] But they asked him, what do you think about Iran? Will you attack Iran? And he says, “As long as we don't do a nuclear attack.” That's what you want to hit, right? I said, “I think he got it wrong.” Isn't that something to bash? So that's the biggest, biggest risk. We have nuclear weapons, the power of nuclear weapons, the power of weapons. You know, I rebuilt all the military jets. I rebuilt everything I had made myself, including the nucleus. Although I hated making nuclear weapons, I learned firsthand how powerful they were. I prepared. We must be fully prepared. But when they asked him that question, the answer was to hit the nuke first and worry about the rest later. So they should, and if they're going to do it, they're going to do it, but whatever their plan is, we're going to figure it out.
President Trump also spoke of the success of promoting peace through the Abraham Accords, saying the United States could avoid war if it were once again feared and respected by America's enemies and allies around the world.
Iran fired 200 missiles at Israel, of which 19 failed to explode and 23 landed on Israeli air bases, without causing any serious damage. The remaining 158 missiles were intercepted by Israel's defense systems, as well as by the United States and other allies.
