Israeli police on Monday released dramatic helmet camera footage of Saturday’s daring hostage rescue, in which Noah Al-Ghamani, 25, Almog Meir Jan, 21, Andrei Kozlov, 27, and Shlomi Ziv, 40, were freed from Gaza and returned to Israel.
The operation was carried out by the Israel Police’s counter-terrorism unit, Yamam, in collaboration with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Israel Security Services (ISA, Shin Bet), and its commander, Arnon Zamora, was killed in combat.
The four hostages were held in two separate Palestinian homes near a busy market in Nuseira, central Gaza, and Al-Ghamani said she was forced to do domestic slavery for the families who held her captive.
The footage shows the moment Israeli forces approach an apartment building holding three men who were being held hostage by Abdallah al-Jamal, a “journalist” said to be from the Palestine Chronicle and Al Jazeera.
The footage shows soldiers entering the room where the hostages are being held under heavy fire, with the hostages holding their hands up in fear, while the soldiers can be heard telling them in Hebrew: “We’re here to rescue you. Please stay calm.”
One of the soldiers then shook hands with hostage Almog Meir Jan.
The footage then shows soldiers and hostages fleeing the apartment building. The struggle to escape Gaza was even more dramatic, with several escape vehicles broken down or damaged by gunfire from Hamas terrorists.
