Israeli President Isaac Herzog expressed his country’s pacity to Christendom on Monday with the death of Pope Francis, just a day after leading Easter celebrations at the Vatican.
In a statement, Herzog said:
I express my deepest pathos about the loss of the Christian world, especially the sacred site of the Christian community of Israel – his great spiritual father, the Holy Pope Francis. A man of deep faith and endless compassion, he devoted his life to uplifting the poor and seeking peace in a troubled world. He correctly thought about what was very important in promoting strong connection with the Jewish world and advancing inter-fiction dialogue as a path to deeper understanding and mutual respect.
I really hope that his prayers for peace in the Middle East and for safe return of hostages will be answered soon.
May his memories continue to inspire acts of kindness, unity and hope.
Herzog’s rhetoric came despite growing tensions between the Vatican and Israel, which even triggered the terrorist attacks on October 7th, which had increasingly taken the pro-Palestinian line.

Herzog will accept his qualification as Ambassador Mike Huckabee, the first evangelical Christian in the role later on Monday.
