Mike Pence Supports Trump’s Military Aid to Ukraine

Former Vice President Mike Pence recently commended President Donald Trump for resuming military assistance to Ukraine. This comes on the heels of Trump’s assertion that Russian President Vladimir Putin “doesn’t want peace.”

Trump announced that the U.S. will continue supplying weapons to Ukraine as the conflict with Russia escalates. He emphasized that these would primarily be defensive weapons, noting the heavy toll of the ongoing conflict, stating, “So many people are dying in that mess.” He reiterated, “We’re going to send some more weapons.”

“We have to. They have to be able to defend themselves,” Trump added, emphasizing that the situation is dire for ongoing victims of the conflict.

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell confirmed this military support, explaining that under Trump’s direction, the Department of Defense will be providing additional defensive weapons to Ukraine. “This is to ensure the Ukrainians can defend themselves while we work to secure a lasting peace,” Parnell stated.

There had been a pause in aid related to certain missile systems and ammunition, stemming from concerns about depleting U.S. military stockpiles.

Pence expressed his support for Trump’s decision to resume the aid, recalling his initial concerns during the early days of Trump’s term about a possible negotiated settlement. “I welcome his decisions this week and his rhetoric,” he remarked.

He added, “My hope is that the president is starting to recognize that Vladimir Putin doesn’t want peace; he wants Ukraine.” Pence further stated it’s time to renew military support for Ukraine, aligning this sentiment with European allies until a fair and lasting peace is achieved.

Pence also commended Trump for his recent military action against Iran’s nuclear facilities, suggesting that voices advocating for isolationism within the administration may be losing ground.

“I think what may have changed is that some of those isolationist voices have recently condemned the president’s correct and courageous decision to launch a military assault against Iran,” Pence stated.

Critics, particularly from the Libertarian faction of the MAGA movement, argue that continuing military aid to both Israel and Ukraine contradicts the “America First” stance. They contend that with national debt exceeding $37 trillion, the U.S. should not be engaged in distant foreign conflicts.
